Pernod Ricard

PARX developed the Trade Promotion Management system, which is based on Lightning Components, for Pernod Ricard, the globally active manufacturer and promoter of spirits and wines. All expenses are entered via the iSpend application and can be analyzed in real time.


Pernod Ricard is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and promoters of wines and spirits, with consolidated revenues of € 8.7 billion in the year 2015/16. Absolut Vodka, Havana Club, Ramazzotti, Perrier-Jouët, Malibu and Ballantines are just some of its famous brands. Pernod Ricard employs more than 18,500 staff and operates a decentralized organization with 6 brand companies and 101 production sites.

The Pernod Ricard Group has used Salesforce for many years and relies on one single Salesforce instance despite its global presence and decentralized organization. Pernod Ricard maintains a number of in-house-developed applications based on the Salesforce platform. After the roll-out of Salesforce Automation, the next step was to improve its expense management system. Pernod Ricard was looking for a Salesforce partner with the necessary technical capabilities and experience; it found just this at PARX. State-of-the-art architecture with Heroku and Lightning components

«The aim was to develop an application that could be used to calculate the expenses incurred in relation to promoting the various spirits. This required the system to be extremely flexible,» explained Philipp Hoffmann, from Pernod Ricard Germany. «As we were dealing with a large number of markets, with differing quality requirements, bottle sizes and stock keeping units (SKUs), there were huge data volumes involved.»

«In order to carry out calculations for such a large amount of data in almost real time, a state-of-the-art technical infrastructure was a must. This was realized based on the Salesforce platform and Heroku / Heroku Connect,» explains Daniel Seiler, Member of the Executive Board at PARX. Heroku is a cloud platform for application development (PaaS), which allows developers to build and operate applications completely in the cloud.

The front-end application was developed based on Salesforce’s Lightning Components Framework, which makes it easier to adapt the application and deploy it for different markets. The application was named ‹iSpend›. iSpend was developed for the German market and is used there – however, it can be adapted for other markets.

Business Intelligence

The data concerning promotional measures for all drinks that have both been agreed and already invoiced are calculated in the calculation engine, which PARX developed based on Heroku. The Business Intelligence reports can be used to calculate the costs incurred for each brand. Philipp Hoffmann: «We now have a far better overview of our budget, what has been spent, and what has already been invoiced.
